The LG-GW620 is designed to be "consumer-friendly", while still remaining suitable for professional users and will be one of a number of upcoming smartphones set for release by the company.

However, at least three of these will run using the rival Windows Mobile system, something LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company's president and chief executive officer Dr Skott Ahn said is reflective of a commitment to diversity.

"This Android phone is just one of many smartphone models we plan to introduce worldwide in the years ahead," he added.

Earlier this month, the Android-powered Samsung galaxy and Motorola CLIQ were unveiled by their respective creators.
